Spanish rider Raul Fernandez (Aprilia-Trackhouse) claimed a sensational first-ever MotoGP victory at the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday, crossing the finish line in 39 minutes 49.571 seconds after a fiercely contested race at the scenic Phillip Island circuit.

Fernandez held off late challenges from Fabio Di Giannantonio (Ducati-VR46), who finished just 1.418 seconds behind, and fellow Italian Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia), who completed the podium 2.410 seconds adrift.

Alex Marquez (Ducati-Gresini) and rising star Pedro Acosta (KTM) rounded out the top five, finishing within eight seconds of the leader. Meanwhile, Luca Marini (Honda) and Alex Rins (Yamaha) delivered solid performances to secure sixth and seventh respectively.

Further down the order, Brad Binder (KTM) finished eighth ahead of Enea Bastianini (KTM-Tech3), while Pol Espargaro (KTM) closed the top ten. World champion Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) failed to finish after completing just four laps due to technical issues.

The race also saw retirements from Joan Mir (Honda), Jack Miller (Yamaha-Pramac), and Johann Zarco (Honda-LCR), all bowing out before the halfway mark.

World Championship Standings

Despite not finishing, Marc Marquez (ESP) continues to dominate the 2025 championship standings with 545 points, holding a commanding lead over his brother Alex Marquez (379). Bezzecchi (282) sits third, followed by Bagnaia (274) and Acosta (233).

With his maiden win, Fernandez climbs to 10th overall with 146 points, marking a significant milestone in his MotoGP career.

The MotoGP season now heads to Malaysia, where the Sepang circuit will host the next round of the championship as the battle for podium places intensifies.
