French driver Pierre Gasly will start Sunday’s Italian Grand Prix from the pit lane, Alpine team confirmed. Gasly, who had qualified last on the grid, will have a new power unit installed after his car was removed from parc fermé conditions, the team said on social media.
Gasly has struggled for pace at Monza, finishing 19th out of 20 qualifiers. Earlier, another French driver, Isack Hadjar, was also moved to the pit lane after Racing Bulls changed his engine. Hadjar had qualified 16th.
At the front of the grid, four-time defending champion Max Verstappen will start from pole position in his Red Bull. McLaren’s Lando Norris, second in the driver standings, will start alongside him, while championship leader Oscar Piastri, also in a McLaren, takes third.
The race is set to begin at 13:00 GMT at the historic Monza circuit.
