French midfielder eyes fresh start after doping suspension
Paul Pogba has signed a two-year deal with AS Monaco, marking a major step in his bid to revive a career disrupted by injury and suspension. The 32-year-old joins on a free transfer after leaving Juventus last year.
Pogba had been serving a doping ban since February 2024 after testing positive for DHEA, a substance that increases testosterone. The initial four-year ban was reduced to 18 months following a successful appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
His contract with Juventus was mutually terminated in November 2024, capping a troubled second spell in Turin plagued by injuries. Pogba returned to Juve in 2022 after leaving Manchester United, where he had once been the world’s most expensive player.
A 2018 World Cup winner, Pogba has not featured for France since 2022, having missed the Qatar tournament due to knee surgery.
Now at Monaco, he hopes to return to form and fitness in Ligue 1, where his top-flight journey first began.
