Bahrain’s 2024/2025 horse racing season continues with the 18th race set to take place on Friday at the Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club in Riffa. The event will feature intense competition for the prestigious Al Shorooq Group, Crown Industries, and Safra Cups. Racing enthusiasts can expect a thrilling contest as top horses from various stables battle for victory, while others aim for their first career win.
Among the highlights is the opening race, the Safra Cup, a 1,200-meter sprint for purebred Bahraini Arabian horses (Waho). It is reserved for apprentice jockeys, with Hussein Asghar, who has excelled this season, leading “Mosnan M908” against strong challengers. The Crown Industries Cup, a 1,400-meter race for locally bred horses, is expected to be a closely fought contest.
Meanwhile, the 1,600-meter Al Shorooq Group Cup for fourth-grade and maiden imported horses will see “Firth of Clyde,” “Unspirited,” and “Spiral” competing for top honors. One of the most unpredictable races will be the fourth event, a maiden race for locally bred horses over 1,800 meters, featuring 15 runners seeking their first win.
In the fifth race, a 2,000-meter balance event for imported horses, “Qamaran” is the frontrunner following strong performances this season but will face challenges from “Double Jump” and “Sing in Craft.” The sixth race, a 2,200-meter contest, sees “West Suffolk” and “Glen Savage” as favorites, both having delivered strong performances in long-distance races this season.
The seventh event, the Al Shorooq Group Cup over 1,200 meters, will see an anticipated clash between undefeated “Zil” and the talented mare “Al Hudbaa,” both of whom have impressed this season. The final race, another 1,200-meter event, will feature strong contenders such as “Instinctive Move,” “Kasb,” and “What a Business,” alongside debutants “Biz Nair” and “Bourdet,” both looking to make an impact in their first outing
