British School of Bahrain hosts International Family Fair

The British School of Bahrain(BSB) held its seventh International Family Fair at its campus in Hamala on Friday.

After months of planning, there was much discussion the day before as to whether or not the fair should go ahead as the weather forecast strongly suggested thunderstorms.

In the end, in what was described by the school as ‘true BSB style’, the decision was taken to go ahead.

Head of School, Julie Anne Gilbert commented, “There was a strong feeling that someone was watching over as the rain held off all day. We were fortunate to have cloud cover and a light breeze until the first drops of rain fell just as the fair ended.”

Different strands of the community united to perform traditional dances, cook traditional dishes and delicacies.

There were performances by the school choir and the BSB Academies dance and gymnastic troupes. For the youngest guests, there were swings and rides to enjoy.

Older visitors enjoyed festive shopping from a wide range of external vendors. One particular highlight of the day was the Indian traditional dancing by a group of mothers at the school. This culminated magnificent audience participation.

The fair was opened by ambassadors and consular officers from the range of nationalities at the school, including representatives from the Netherlands, Bangladesh, Turkey and Switzerland, as well as senior officials from the Ministry of Education.

The Pakistani ambassador Javed Malik, also visited the fair, much to the delight of the parents and students manning the Pakistan stall.

The school is most grateful for the sponsorship from local companies, particularly platinum sponsor Dr. Ammar Alekri Dental Center, a BSB statement said.
