Bapco Energies, Bahrain's integrated energy group leading the Kingdom's energy security and sustainability agenda, celebrated the winners of the 18th Bapco Energies Green School Award 2024–2025, recognizing outstanding environmental initiatives developed by secondary school students across the Kingdom.

The annual awards ceremony was attended by Dr. Abdulrahman Jawahery, Managing Director of Bapco Energies Group and Chief Executive Officer of Bapco Refining, alongside government officials and representatives from participating schools.

Organized in partnership with the Ministry of Education and the Supreme Council for Environment, this year's competition attracted 23 boys' and girls' secondary schools. Each school presented innovative environmental projects designed to promote sustainability and environmentally responsible practices within their communities.

Al Noor Secondary Girls' School secured first place, followed by Al Jabriya Secondary Boys' School in second place, while Hamad Town Secondary Boys' School claimed third.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Jawahery reaffirmed Bapco Energies' commitment to supporting national initiatives that strengthen environmental sustainability, describing it as a key pillar of the group's strategy to deliver responsible and sustainable energy security for future generations.

He praised the Ministry of Education and the Supreme Council for Environment for their continued collaboration, highlighting their vital role in advancing Bahrain's sustainable development goals and transforming environmental initiatives into lasting benefits for society.

"The innovative projects we have witnessed today reflect a growing awareness among students of the importance of protecting natural resources and preserving the environment," Dr. Jawahery said.

He added that, after 18 editions, the Green School Award has become a leading model for empowering students to transform knowledge into practical and innovative solutions that address environmental challenges while strengthening the culture of sustainability within schools and the wider community.

Dr. Jawahery stressed that investing in young minds is essential to achieving the transition toward a low-carbon economy.

"We remain committed to providing platforms that inspire creativity and innovation while supporting programmes that raise environmental awareness among young people and encourage them to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives. These efforts will create a lasting positive impact on both society and the environment while reinforcing our role as an active partner in building a more sustainable and prosperous future for Bahrain," he said.

Suha Saleh Hamada, Assistant Undersecretary for School Affairs at the Ministry of Education, praised the continued success of the Green School Award over its 18 editions, noting its significant contribution to raising environmental awareness among students and encouraging them to develop practical projects and innovative solutions that benefit the environment.

She said the Ministry remains committed to embedding sustainability principles across school curricula, educational activities, and initiatives to prepare environmentally responsible students capable of contributing to sustainable development. She also commended the Ministry's ongoing partnership with Bapco Energies in delivering the programme.

Hamada congratulated the winning schools and applauded all participating institutions for demonstrating a high level of innovation, dedication, and competitive spirit.

Meanwhile, Amna Hamad Al Rumaihi, Chief Executive of the Supreme Council for Environment, praised the long-standing strategic partnership between the Council, Bapco Energies, and the Ministry of Education.

She described the Green School Award as an important national initiative supporting Bahrain's sustainability objectives and environmental vision while fostering environmental awareness, innovation, and sustainable thinking among young people.

Al Rumaihi said the programme is helping develop a generation capable of creating practical solutions to protect the environment, conserve natural resources, and ensure their sustainability for future generations.
