On National Environment Day, Bapco Energies highlighted its role in supporting Bahrain’s environmental priorities through initiatives aligned with national sustainability targets.
Mark Thomas, Group Chief Executive of Bapco Energies, said the occasion represents a renewed n a t i o n a l opportu - nity to reaffirm commitment to protecting the environment and strengthening sustainability efforts. He noted that the group adopts environmental best practices across its operations in line with the vision of the Kingdom’s leadership.
Mr. Thomas pointed to progress under the National Afforestation Plan, which aims to plant 3.6 million trees by 2035. He said 2.4 million trees had been planted by the end of 2025, representing 67 per cent of the target, as part of efforts to protect natural resources and environmental life for future generations.
He also referred to Bahrain’s national direction to reduce emissions by 30 per cent by 2035 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, describing these targets as a framework guiding Bapco Energies’ longterm strategy. This includes expanding renewable energy projects, improving energy consumption efficiency and adopting technologies aimed at reducing emissions.
Referring to this year ’s theme, ‘We restore it to revive it’, Mr. Thomas said it reflects national efforts to restore ecosystems, expand green spaces and promote responsible management of resources and energy.
He added that Bapco Energies works with national entities, including the Ministry of Oil and Environment and the Supreme Council for Environment, and participates in initiatives such as the ‘Mangroves in Bahrain’ programme, which aims to quadruple marine vegetation cover by 2035.
