The ongoing requirement to exchange, expertise and enhance capabilities in the medical field was stressed by the Health Minister yesterday.

This came as Dr Jalila Hassan inaugurated the Second Health Regulatory Conference and Exhibition at Bahrain Conference Centre, Crowne Plaza Hotel.

The three-day conference organised by National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) along with BDA covers a variety of topics, including granting and renewing accreditation to hospitals and medical centres, developing regulations and legislation, licensing healthcare facilities, launching the “Monshaat” and “Mehan” initiatives, regulating and arbitrating the use of medical devices, pharmaceuticals, as well related subjects.

“This conference will contribute a lot towards the Kingdom’s healthcare sector when it comes to boosting our national competencies.

Innovation is vital to ensure the effectiveness and sustainability of the healthcare system.”

NHRA CEO Dr Maryam Al Jalahma said the conference would bring many topics to the spotlight including licensing healthcare facilities, regulating medical equipment companies, granting and renewing accreditation for hospitals and medical centres as well as working on new legislations along with legislators.

Speaking through the video conference facility, Dr Graham McMahon, President and CEO, Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education in the US, said continuing medical education is something regulators should emphasise.

“The present environment under which healthcare professionals are functioning is highly complex and continuing medical education is the only way to build skills that can match the requirements adhering to changing regulatory norms in the sector.”

The three-day conference aims to promote engagement and collaboration between health professionals and broader entities as well as representatives from the health and care industries who have diverse specialisms.

These include delegates from the medical product, pharmaceutical, patient safety and medical training industries as well as those representing healthcare facilities themselves.

Furthermore, accreditation experts from the region and around the world will guide attendees.

The conference’s primary goal is to precipitate an exchange of ideas on the implementation and management of health regulations.

An “expo” is also being held concurrently with the conference to highlight the services (and products) of several participating organisations.

The conference also provides a platform for the exchange of views between all practitioners in the field of health and medical care – as well as the services sector – of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Arabian Gulf.

An array of topics related to the health sector will be topics of conversation including; strengthening the leadership of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the health arena, health, education and training, health and medical research, health investment, data protection in the fields of medicine and public health amongst others.

The Health Regulatory Conference and Exhibition provides a venue for health and medical service providers in various fields and will introduce them to the most recent advancements in the Supreme Council of Health’s role in creating and monitoring the implementation of the National Health Plan.

The plan aims to develop the entire health services system in line with the objectives of Bahrain’s  Economic Vision 2030.

It has also been developed in conjunction with the Government’s plan for national advancements in the sustainability and quality of healthcare services offered to citizens (such as the National Health Insurance Programme, which is among the strategic objectives) and to generally raise the standard of medical care given to Bahrain’s residents and citizens.
