Robbery: Appeal hearing adjourned
Manama
The High Criminal Appeals Court yesterday adjourned hearing the appeal of a woman convicted of robbery to October 14 for review.
The Sri Lankan national, who was serving as a domestic servant, was tried after her sponsor filed a complaint on her, accusing her of robbing BD180 and several gadgets and valuables.
The women headed to her country’s embassy and made a counter complaint, alleging that she hadn’t received her salary for seven months.
“I decided to run away because I wasn’t paid for seven months. I took with me several valuables to compensate for my unpaid dues,” the woman told prosecutors.
However, she was given three months in prison by the High Criminal Court.
She challenged her initial verdict, appealing for mercy and to be quickly deported to her homeland.
