Phone robber gets 5-year jail
Manama
The High Criminal Court handed down five-year imprisonment to a person accused of robbery.
The accused reportedly robbed a 52-year-old Russian woman of her mobile phone before selling it for BD40 in Manama.
The robbery reportedly took place on November 16 last year, when the accused came across his victim while she was taking a walk in Juffair.
“He asked me in English if I needed any help, and I politely said ‘no’ to him,” the woman told prosecutors in her statement.
“But he suddenly snatched my mobile phone, which was in my jacket. I tried to resist him and grab the phone but he quickly got into his car and escaped. I held on to the window of the car as it started to move, but stumbled and fell as he sped,” she added.
The woman broke her nose, and injured her lips in the incident.
The fall also bruised her face, according to a medical report.
The Bahraini suspect was arrested after eight days of the crime from a hotel in Juffair, according to court files.
