Airport staff sacked for lobbing luggage

Contracted firm acts following video revealed staff misconduct

 Workers who were recently involved in a 'bag throwing' incident at the Bahrain International Airport (BIA) has been terminated from their jobs.

 DT News yesterday reported about a video circulating on social media in which a worker was seen mishandling travellers’ luggage. The video also showed the workers throwing the luggage into trolleys in a slipshod manner. 

 In a statement released by the Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) explained that the ground operations at the airport had been assigned with a company. BAC stated that it held an urgent meeting with the company to discuss the incident. 

 "The managing body of BIA, would like to thank the passenger for recording this incident and for social media advocates bringing it to our attention. BAC has held an urgent meeting with the concerned company contracted to handle the airport’s ground operations, to ensure that corrective action is taken,” the statement said.

 “Following an investigation, the company has taken immediate action and removed the staff responsible for the misconduct from their posts with immediate effect. The loading supervisors on the said flight have been reprimanded and issued warnings,” BAC stated.

 "BAC is committed to operating BIA in accordance with international standards and best practices and in line with the Kingdom’s national strategy and vision. We are continuously monitoring BIA’s ground operations to sustain BIA’s reputation for customer service, speed and operational efficiency,” it explained.
