A former MP and a current member of Al Wefaq National Islamic Political Society was recently arrested after returning from Iran, on charges related to financing terrorism, announced by security authorities.
Hussain Isa was apparently arrested for financing terrorism among terrorist fugitives and others who are associated with terrorist acts.
In a press statement, Interior Ministry’s Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science General Director Brigadier Abdulrahman Al Sinan confirmed that he was arrested on August 18.
He said “the name of the arrestee was mentioned in a number of terrorist cases, including the Sitra terrorist blast on July 28 that killed two policemen.”
“After the information was verified an arrest warrant was issued,” Al Sinan stated.
The General Director explained that “the suspect received donations from different sources, including money from participants in rallies, and then he distributed it to fugitives.”
“He provided money to a terrorist group and one of its members knowing about its terrorist activities, and he helped cover up their crimes. He also arranged the living facilities for members of the group,” Al Sinan added.
The General Director said that legal proceedings were taken and the arrestee was referred to the Public Prosecution for further investigation.
Meanwhile, Al Wefaq Society rejected the arrest and questioned the credibility of the investigation.
