Four injured after fire breaks out in a building

Manama : Four people suffered serious injuries as they leapt out of their apartment window to escape a blaze, which tore through their building in the capital, yesterday. 

According to an eyewitness account, the blaze occurred at around 11.30am. 

The residents, all expatriates, jumped out of the building before firefighters arrived, causing them severe head and leg injuries.

The injured, all Bangladeshi nationals, were rushed to the hospital. The flames were doused by Civil Defence firefighters, who reached the scene immediately. 

The building in now evacuated and investigators are working on to determine the cause of the accident.

Meanwhile, Taj Uddin, Information desk officer at the Bangladesh Embassy to Bahrain revealed the identities of the injured to DT News. They are Bipul Chandra, Prodip Chandra, Khukon Chandra and Saiful Islam. 

“Khukon Chandra and Saiful Islam are still very critical, as they sustained severe head injuries. The other two are stable, though they sustained major leg injuries,” said Taj Uddin

He also confirmed that no further information is available as they were all still not in a state to speak. 

“We are waiting for more details to emerge,” he added.  

One of the sources told DT News that the building was earlier a residential complex and it was later converted into a labour accommodation, with approximately 11 labourers living in each flat.

“I am also staying in that building,” he said. 

“Just now, I got a call from one of my neighbours to tell me that our building is on fire.

“I rushed to the place only to find that most of our stuff were damaged including passports,” he added.
