Bahrain court dissolve Al Wefaq

The Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments (MOJIA) announced the dissolution of Al Wefaq national Islamic society in the light of the ministry's request to dissolve Al Wefaq society.

The High Civil Court today issued its sentence in favour of the dissolution and liquidation of Al Wefaq society.

Earlier, the administrative court had issued an urgency ruling suspending Al Wefaq's activities, closing its headquarters and taking its assets into custody. Al Wefaq had been accused of illegal practices, disrespecting the rule of law and the foundations of citizenship that is based on the principles of co-existence, tolerance and respecting the other. The society also provided a nurturing environment for terrorism, extremism and violence in addition to calling for foreign intervention in the national affair.

Today's ruling by the High Civil Court said the plaintiff society was in the habit of objection against the legitimacy of the Kingdom of Bahrain's constitution. The society also supported violent action and posted pictures of terrorists brandishing sharp tools which it claimed were only peaceful demonstrators. The society expressed its solidarity with persons convicted for instigating regime hate, a coup d'état and demeaning the judiciary and executive bodies.

Al Wefaq society also called to foreign intervention on many of its stances. The society objected against the legitimacy of the legislative authority. The society also continuously exploited places of worshipping to carry out its political activities.

The court concluded that Al Wefaq society swerved in the course of its political activity to the extent of incitement of violence and encouraged demonstrations and sit-ins that would lead to sectarian strife in the country. The society had been in stark violation of the constitution rights and swerved in the course of carrying out its political activities in clear breach of the Political Societies Law.

The ministry stressed keenness on the protection of national gains and consolidating the sound political practice in compliance with the rule of law to preserve national unity, shun violence, terrorism, sectarian politics and to constructive contribute in the development process under the kingdom's ongoing reforms.
