MP calls for launching air and marine ambulance services in Bahrain

Manama : Citing the problems caused by the increasing traffic snarls in the country, MP Mohammed Al Maarifi yesterday called for establishing air and marine ambulance services in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Al Maarifi considered his proposal a constitutional right of citizens. Quoting the constitution of the Kingdom of Bahrain, he remarked, “Every citizen shall have the right to health welfare. The State shall care for the public health and ensure means of prevention and treatment by establishing various kinds of hospitals and providing medical facilities.”

“We should introduce air and marine ambulance service system to ensure quick response and arrival at emergency sites. Traffic jams could delay ambulances and result in risking lives. Bahrain is an archipelago and having a marine ambulance isn’t less important than land ambulance,” the MP said.

“Countries like Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Jordan and the US are utilising air ambulances as they’re fast and efficient. Bahrain needs to consider adopting these methods to save lives,” Al Maarifi pointed out.

He also noted that “the proposal supports the country’s healthcare system and enhances it by saving time, which is important to save lives and avoid additional complications of victims.”
