Filipinos in the Kingdom of Bahrain celebrated Eid AlFitr 2026 with a blend of gratitude, resilience, and unity, despite ongoing regional tensions that continue to affect daily life and employment.

Eid Al-Fitr, which commenced on March 20, 2026, signified the conclusion of the sacred month of Ramadan and is customarily celebrated with prayers, family reunions, and charitable activities.

This year, however, the festivities took place under challenging circumstances impacted both local residents and expatriate communities.

Despite the situation, the Filipino community came together to observe the occasion in meaningful ways.

Prayers

Many Filipinos gathered in smaller groups for prayers and simple meals, while others chose to celebrate quietly in shared accommodations and homes.

Julius Jude P. Mamaclay, president of Kaisahan ng Filipino Balik Islam sa Bahrain (KFBI – Bahrain), shared how their group marked the occasion despite the challenges.

“This morning, we had a simple breakfast with some of our members and my family. It was a modest celebration despite our current situation. We continue to practice the traditions and teachings of Islam, as this helps strengthen our brotherhood,” he said.

The Kaisahan ng Filipino Balik Islam sa Bahrain has recently conducted its Ramadan Iftar Distribution Program, providing iftar packages to fasting individuals in the community.

Meanwhile, Neverlyn Penturas Biona, 44, from Iloilo City, and a revert to Islam, shared how the Filipino Muslim community remained steadfast in faith.

“My friends and I were able to attend the Eid prayer at the mosque and celebrate Eid AlFitr with prayers for peace and prosperity,” she said. “With sincere hearts, full of blessings and warm wishes, we marked this special occasion even amid the current situation. Alhamdulillah.”

Biona, who has been working in Bahrain for 16 years currently as a technician at RFI Bell Helmets, also shared a message for fellow Filipinos.

“To all my kababayan, let us always stay safe and follow the government’s safety precautions. Remain calm and be vigilant. Let us continue to pray to Allah for our protection and safety. He is our protector and controller of everything. All praises belong to Allah,” she said.

Traditions

For some Filipinos in Bahrain, Eid Al-Fitr offers more than just a public holiday; it serves as a chance to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of Islamic culture and traditions.

According to Ruth Apurado, president of Habi Pilipina, “On this blessed occasion of Eid, I am truly happy for our Muslim brothers and sisters as they celebrate this meaningful time. I hope that no matter what challenges may come our way, we will continue to stand together in unity, supporting one another for the greater good of all”.

Apurado celebrated a simple get-together with her fellow Habi Pilipina officers following a meeting to discuss the direction of the organization’s programs in light of the current situation.
