Minister Showcases Century of Municipal Progress

Arab ambassadors accredited to the Kingdom of Bahrain praised the Kingdom’s rich municipal legacy and institutional development during a visit to the Manama Municipality building.

The ambassadors expressed appreciation for the warm reception and commended the progress they witnessed, highlighting the importance of such meetings in strengthening Arab cooperation and joint coordination.

During the visit, the diplomatic delegation toured the rehabilitated facilities of Manama Municipality and explored the municipal exhibition documenting more than a century of institutional work. The exhibition showcased key milestones in the municipality’s development, its evolving responsibilities, and its role in advancing urban services across the Kingdom.

Officials provided a detailed briefing on the municipality’s competencies and the major stages of its growth, outlining how municipal services have modernised over the decades in line with Bahrain’s broader development strategy.

Receiving the delegation, His Excellency Eng. Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, highlighted that municipal modernisation efforts align with the Kingdom’s comprehensive development process led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and under the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister.

He also underscored Bahrain’s longstanding municipal heritage, which dates back to 1919 with the establishment of Manama Municipality, laying the foundation for structured urban planning and improved public services. The recent reopening of the municipality building following its rehabilitation further reflects Bahrain’s commitment to preserving its historical legacy while enhancing institutional performance.

The visit was organised as part of introductory tours coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for members of the diplomatic corps to familiarise them with Bahrain’s municipal history and development journey.
