A man sentenced to three years in prison for robbing a lift technician at knife-point will have his appeal heard next Monday by the High Criminal Court of Appeal.

According to court records, the suspect forcibly took the victim’s mobile phone, car key, and perfume.

The incident occurred around 1pm while the technician was performing maintenance in a building. On the third floor, he left his bag containing personal items, including a bottle of perfume, outside the lift. A masked man approached, questioned him, and, after the technician explained his work, the man left temporarily.

When the technician returned, he found his bag open and its contents disturbed. The same man was nearby holding the perfume. He then drew a small folding knife, pointed it at the technician, and demanded the phone and car key, which he had seen earlier. The suspect instructed the technician to raise his hands, searched his pockets, and demanded the phone’s passcode.

Fearing for his safety, the technician complied. The assailant checked the phone’s photos, WhatsApp, and email, then ordered the victim to face the wall before fleeing via the stairwell with the stolen items.

The technician immediately used a second phone to call the police. Officers arrived, conducted a search, and arrested a man matching the description. Authorities recovered the folding knife, stolen perfume, and mobile phone, as well as a toy pistol. A records check revealed the suspect had prior convictions.

The first-instance court sentenced him to three years in prison and ordered the knife confiscated. The appeal is scheduled for next Monday.
