Bahrain has been ranked the third-safest Arab destination for tourists, scoring 6.00 out of 7 on the World Economic Forum’s Tourism Safety Index.

The score places the kingdom behind the United Arab Emirates on 6.12 and Qatar on 6.07.

The index rates safety from 1 ‘least safe’ to 7 ‘most safe’.

Bahrain’s standing is tied to work on tourism, including updated laws and modern infrastructure, as well as the country’s reputation for security, openness and a clear historic and cultural identity.

Hosting major sporting fixtures and concerts has also helped draw visitors.

Across the region, Saudi Arabia placed fourth on 5.85, followed by Egypt on 5.20, Oman on 5.02 and Jordan on 5.00.

Morocco took eighth with 4.85, Tunisia ninth with 4.30, Kuwait tenth with 4.20, Algeria eleventh with 4.10 and Lebanon twelfth with 4.05.
