An attempt to overtake a truck on a two-way road ended in tragedy, leaving two workers dead and others injured, as prosecutors urged the court to impose the harshest penalty “without mercy or leniency.”
The First High Criminal Court has set October 14 to deliver its verdict against an African driver accused of causing the fatal accident.
According to the charges, the crash took place on August 2, 2025, when the defendant was driving a bus carrying workers. Instead of keeping to the right side of the road, he tried to overtake a truck illegally. The reckless maneuver forced the bus into the opposite lane, where it smashed head-on into a truck that had been traveling correctly in its lane.
The collision killed two bus passengers and left others with serious injuries, including the truck driver who suffered a broken leg and head trauma. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage.
The Public Prosecution called for the maximum sentence to be handed down, stressing that the accident was caused by clear violations and full responsibility lay with the driver. Prosecutors argued that such conduct resulted in grave consequences and should serve as a deterrent.
Awaiting the verdict
The case now rests with the court, which is due to announce its ruling next month. If the Prosecution’s call is accepted, the driver faces the strongest punishment under the law. The incident has reignited concerns about reckless driving and its deadly impact on Bahrain’s roads.
