Northern Municipal Council opens ‘fruitful’ fourth session

The Northern Municipal Council opened the fourth session of the sixth municipal term yesterday and agreed new committee line-ups.
Chairman Dr Sayed Shubbar Ibrahim Al Wadaei set out plans for completion of scheduled service projects in closer co-operation with government bodies. He described the fourth session as a ‘harvest season’ for municipal work.
Dr Al Wadaei said the Council would step up follow-up and build stronger working ties with ministries, while asking committees to study requests and proposals more thoroughly to improve delivery and meet set goals.
Chairmanships
Members named the following chairs: the Services Committee, Zainab Al Durazi; the Technical Committee, Jassim Hijris; the Financial and Legal Committee, Dr Salman Mohsen; and the Public Relations and Media Committee, Abdullah Al Thawadi.
The sitting ended with a question from member Mohamed Saad Al Doseri, on measures regarding abandoned and dilapidated houses; the matter went to the Legal Committee for study.
Separately, Abdullah Bilal, raised the creation of a turning island on Avenue 3 between Blocks 1203 and 1205 in Hamad Town, and the Council agreed to contact the Ministry of Works for an update.
