The signing of a contract to equip the directorate with 500 high-quality smart cameras, featuring the latest technologies capable of detecting various types of traffic violations, represents a major step forward in strengthening traffic discipline and enhancing public safety on the roads.
This was emphasised by the Director-General of Traffic, Major-General Shaikh Abdulrahman bin Abdulwahab Al Khalifa.
He explained that this initiative comes within the government’s directives, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to support the traffic system and upgrade its technical infrastructure in line with international best practices.
The Director-General valued the guidance and close follow-up of His Excellency Interior Minister General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Traffic Council, noting his keenness to advance the traffic system and achieve positive impact in regulating traffic flow and protecting lives and property.
Modern system
He emphasised that this modern system is integral to the effective implementation of Royal Decree Law No. (30) of 2025, issued by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, amending certain provisions of the Traffic Law.
The decree, which came into effect on 22 August, introduced stricter penalties for traffic violations and has already had a positive impact on public awareness and compliance with traffic rules.
The Director-General emphasised that the Traffic Directorate would continue to monitor violations using smart technologies, alongside intensified field enforcement through security and civil patrols, and the implementation of ongoing awareness programmes, in order to safeguard lives and property and promote a safe and sustainable traffic culture.
