More than a third of council proposals remain unresolved, a Northern councillor said, accusing ministries of dragging their feet months after the recommendations were submitted.
Abdulla Al Qubaisi, council member for the Ninth Constituency, said several ministries had failed to respond to dozens of recommendations sent by the Northern Municipal Council since September.
He pointed to the Ministry of Health, which had not arranged any meetings with councillors, and the Ministry of Housing, which had only attended once.
Al Qubais said many of the proposals were straightforward and could be resolved in a matter of weeks, yet had been left idle.
The Council member questioned the ministries’ willingness to engage with the council, saying much of the work was being overlooked.
“The only thing that moves is the Urban and Village Development Project – and that happens once every two years,” he said. “The rest lead nowhere.”
He called for stronger media coverage to shed light on the council’s role and efforts.
The council’s secretariat, in a statement issued yesterday, confirmed that 86 recommendations had been submitted since September.
Of these, 36 are still under review, 24 were agreed to, and 20 were rejected.
