A court has dismissed a case brought by two lawyers after they failed to include the correct case number in their petition — a misstep that ultimately led to their claim being rejected.
The lawyers had filed a complaint against a fellow attorney, accusing her of failing to disclose assets in an enforcement case. However, the Lower Criminal Court ruled the petition inadmissible, stating that the relevant enforcement file had not been clearly identified in the documents submitted.
Defence lawyer Khatoun Ali, representing the accused attorney, said her client had received no formal notification about the case cited. In her defence brief, she denied all charges and requested either a full acquittal or the most lenient sentence available.
Ali also submitted a certificate from the Director of the Notary Directorate, confirming her client had already filed the necessary disclosure form for the enforcement case that was allegedly overlooked.
The court found no grounds for conviction. It reviewed records of electronic notifications and found the defendant had been informed of multiple enforcement cases — but not the one named in this particular dispute.
Without the correct case number, the court said it could not be satisfied that due notice had been served or that a failure to disclose had occurred. The petition was dismissed accordingly.
