A father who bound his son’s hands and feet before slitting his throat in a workers’ accommodation in Bahrain has been jailed for life.

The court also ordered his deportation once he has served his sentence and ruled that the murder weapon be confiscated.

The 63-year-old defendant had brought his son to Bahrain less than a year before the killing.

Drug addiction

Back in their home country, he had admitted the 34-year-old victim to a private hospital to tackle his drug addiction.

After two months in treatment, the son asked to join his father in Bahrain for work.

His father agreed, secured him a visa, and brought him over.

At first, nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

Trouble

But within days of arriving, the son began causing trouble — hurling insults at fellow workers, getting into arguments with neighbours, and even turning on his father.

His behaviour, his father later told investigators, suggested that past drug use had left its mark. The father decided to send him back home. But the return journey never happened.

Argument

At the airport, an argument erupted between the victim and a staff member, leading to his travel being blocked.

He remained in Bahrain, and tensions between father and son worsened.

The row that led to the killing started in their shared accommodation. The son grabbed a knife and lunged at his father. A struggle followed.

Weapon

The father managed to grab the weapon and threw it to the floor, but his son picked it up again and went for him once more.

The father overpowered him, forced him to the ground and tied his hands and feet with strips of cloth.

With his son unable to move, the father pressed his hand against his forehead and pulled his head back, exposing his neck.

Then he picked up the knife and cut deep into his son’s throat.
