Bahrainis may soon be able to sort out paperwork after work, with Parliament approving a plan to extend ministry opening hours into the evening. The change aims to ease queues and reduce daytime office crowds.
MP Jalal Kadhem, who proposed the plan, said current hours make life difficult for those working during the day or needing urgent approvals.
“No one should have to choose between their job and getting official paperwork done,” he said. “Keeping ministries open later will help.”
Concerns
The Civil Service Bureau (CSB) has raised concerns, warning that longer hours across all ministries would stretch resources and add to costs at a time when spending is under scrutiny.
It noted that departments can already adjust their schedules when needed and argued that pushing for extended hours could slow efforts to shift services online.
Kadhem dismissed these concerns, saying not everything can be handled instantly online.
