MPs are pressing for land to be set aside for charity societies, arguing that the money spent on rent could be better used for helping those in need. The government, however, has countered by pointing out that 27 state-owned properties are already in use by these groups, out of a total of 93 active headquarters across Bahrain.

The Ministry of Social Development, in a memorandum sent to Parliament, broke down where these charity societies are based.

The Capital Governorate has 34, Muharraq has 11, the Northern Governorate has 43, while the Southern Governorate has only five.

The push for land allocation comes as part of a proposal put forward by MPs Hanan Fardan, Basma Mubarak, Dr. Hisham Al Ashiri, Mahmood Fardan, and Dr. Ali Al Nuaimi.

They want the government to grant land to charity societies for their headquarters and to provide support through funding and public awareness initiatives.

The reasoning behind the proposal is straightforward. The MPs argue that with rent out of the equation, societies would have more to spend on their core work. They also believe that giving these groups a stable base will help them keep going long-term, making sure they can keep serving the public without the worry of rising rental costs.
