Bahrainis dominate finance sector jobs

Manama : Bahrainis are dominating job market in the Kingdom’s finance sector, thanks to the successful localization drive, a latest report has said.     

The report ‘Annual Manpower survey 2017’ by the Central Bank of Bahrain also finds that Bahraini women enjoy 32.2 per cent of the total Bahraini managerial positions in the sector, which is an increase from 31.0pc at end-2016.

The survey also covered the number of board members of the banks and financial institutions. The Bahraini women held 8.7pc of total Bahraini board members at end-2017 up from 6.4pc at end-2016.

As a whole, Bahraini workforce, according to the survey, represents 65.6pc of the total workforce in the financial sector, in which women’s share remains unchanged at 38.3pc. 

The sector employed 9,248 Bahrainis in 2017, which is an increase of 93 jobs compared to the prior year period. 

The total number of jobs in the financial sector in 2017 is 14,093, compared to 14,015 at the end of 2016, an increase or 78 jobs. 

In the banking sector, the total number of employees reached 7,447 at end-2017 from 7,402 at end-2016, an increase of 45 jobs.

In the non-banking financial sector, the number of jobs rose 0.6pc to reach 6,194 at end-2017 compared to 6,156 jobs at end-2016.  

Insurance firms, moneychangers, financing companies, investment business firms, and other non-bank financial institutions are classified as a non-banking financial sector.

The number of employees in the supporting institutions, however, decreased from 457 employees at the end of 2016 to 452 employees at the end of 2017.
