South Korea claim fencing gold

South Korea added another gold to their medal haul yesterday in the Asian Juniors and Cadets Fencing Championships 2024, being hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain at Isa Sports City in Riffa.

The South Koreans claimed the title in the cadet team women’s epee category.

The quartet of Yoonseo Chung, Riwon Hong, Seoyoung Jeong and Yeeun Lee captured gold after defeating Kazakhstan in the final 45-36.

The Kazakh silver-medallists were Kristina Krassikova, Polina Lessovskaya, Amina Samatova and Arina Yakovleva.

The South Koreans advanced to the gold medal bout after defeating Uzbekistan 45-41, while Kazakhstan also won 45-41 against Hong Kong, China.

Both Uzbekistan and Hong Kong, China, shared the bronze medals.

The Uzbeks featured a quartet of Alina Khalilova, Madina Mansurova, Sanam Nazarova and Mukhlisa Rakhmonova.

Hong Kong, China were composed of Alyssa Sui Ying Khoo, Chin Yau Lon, Yuen Lam Ng and Haidi Wu.

With the results in class, the South Koreans moved to the top of the medal table with their second gold.

They have eight medals in total, having also won four silver and two bronze.

Uzbekistan follow in second with five medals, including two gold, one silver and two bronze; China are third with six medals, including two gold and four bronze; while Chinese Taipei are fourth with two gold medals.
