Mixed Martial Arts heroes return to Bahrain
Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Mixed Martial Arts (KHK MMA) Amateurs team returned home yesterday from the United Kingdom where they competed in the International MMA European Open Amateur Championships at the Performance Hub, University of Wolverhampton, Walsall in UK.
Bahrain clinched a bronze medal thanks to team member Hussain Ayyad, who finished an impressive third in the 57kg category on Monday.
The team is owned by First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of Bahrain Athletics Association HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The event was organised by the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) with the cooperation of UK MMA Federation.
High-ranking Bahrain sports officials, including Bahrain Olympic Committee General Secretary Abdulrahman Askar, gave a special welcome to the team on its return.
Askar said the result underlines the success of the team’s plan to achieve positive outcome at different international challenges.
He said the team’s involvement was a great opportunity for the team to get more experience among international-level participants, and stressed that winning a bronze medal was significant for the team, which targets more victories in future competition.
Askar added that this medal has boosted the team’s morale for more achievements in the future to raise the Bahrain flag at the international level, and congratulated the team members for this outstanding result while wishing them success.
Commenting on return, bronze medalist Ayyad expressed his happiness on winning the bronze medal for Bahrain in his first official participation in an international event.
He thanked Shaikh Khalid for his continuous support to the team, which is a big motivation for the team to achieve more positive results.
