Gotencio, Sameer score high series again in Funland Ramadan bowling

Emerson Gotencio and Khalid Sameer were the top scorers on the third day of qualifying in the Funland Ramadan Bowling Tournament 2022, being played at the Funland Centre lanes.

It was the second successive day that the pair posted their respective group’s high series. Gotencio had a score of 694 pins amongst the competition’s Group A bowlers, while Sameer had a best trial of 629 pins in Group B.

Bowlers in the tournament are being divided into two groups, with Group A for advanced competitors and Group B for beginners and ladies. Contestants from both groups in this first phase attempt trials as much as they need, with the total pinfalls including handicap for their best three trials being considered.

Each trial is composed of three games. Gotencio’s score propelled him to the top of the Group A standings as he now boasts a 2,035 total for a 226.1 average. His 694 series added to his two other top trials of 725 and 616. The Philippine national team bowler replaced Essa Taqi atop the leaderboard.

Taqi is now second with a 1,823 total and 202.6 average, while Dante Tisdom from the U.S. improved to third with a 1,794 total and a 199.3 average. Isa Khalid (1,692, 188.0) ranked fourth, Sultan Al Masri (1,232, 136.9) from Saudi Arabia fifth, Ali Al Mass (1,218, 135.3) sixth, Mohammed Mureed (1,164, 129.3) seventh, and JM Villanueva (1,125, 125.0) from the Philippines was eighth. In Group B, Sameer’s 629 trial was his best of the competition thus far.

It added to his two other top series of 597 and 580, to bring his total to 1,806 for a 200.7 average. Jake Villanueva (1,657, 184.1) and Edison Fetalino (1,649, 183.2) from the Philippines followed on the standings in second and third, respectively, while Abdulla Arif (1,579, 175.4) and Isa Akbari (1,567, 174.1) were fourth and fifth.

Rounding off the group’s top eight were Euly Salcedo (1,092, 121.3) and Al Lanuza (973, 108.1), both from the Philippines, and Ahmed Isa (945, 105.0). Qualifying continues today at Funland with this first of the tournament’s five stages continuing until April 21.

Bowlers ranked first and second from Groups A and B at the end of this phase will advance directly to round three, while bowlers ranked third to 16th from each group will play in round two.

The Funland Ramadan Bowling Tournament is being held in memory of the Late Murtadha Qudrat Rasti, the Late Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, and the Late Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Khalifa. Nearly BD4,000 in prize money will be on offer to the top 16 finishers.
