FIA Eyes Greater Motorsport Access in Hungary

FIA President H.E. Mohammed Ben Sulayem held high-level meetings with Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar and Czech President Petr Pavel during the FIA Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix, reaffirming cooperation between the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and regional partners.

The meetings took place at the iconic Hungaroring circuit, which marked 40 years since it first hosted a Formula One World Championship race. Discussions covered the continued growth of motorsport, increasing participation, road safety initiatives and the role of FIA member clubs in strengthening automotive and mobility sectors.

During his meeting with Prime Minister Magyar, Ben Sulayem highlighted the importance of the Hungarian Grand Prix as a major international sporting event that attracts hundreds of thousands of fans annually and contributes to tourism, investment and innovation.

The FIA President praised Hungary’s contribution to motorsport and mobility through the work of FIA member organisations, including the Hungarian National Motorsport Association (Magyar Nemzeti Autósport Szövetség) and the Hungarian Automobile Club (Magyar Mobilitási és Autóklub).

The discussions also addressed the FIA’s global efforts to improve road safety and support governments through research, data-driven solutions and policy initiatives. Ben Sulayem emphasised the organisation’s commitment to promoting safer, more accessible and affordable mobility for road users worldwide.

He also expressed support for Hungary’s Vision Zero initiative, which aims to eliminate road deaths and serious injuries by 2050.

During the race weekend, Ben Sulayem also met Czech President Petr Pavel, who attended the Grand Prix as a photography enthusiast. The two leaders discussed their shared passion for motorsport, following previous meetings in Prague and at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Speaking after the meetings, FIA President H.E. Mohammed Ben Sulayem said the Hungarian Grand Prix remained an important event on the Formula One calendar and reaffirmed the FIA’s commitment to strengthening partnerships in Hungary and across the region.

“Motorsport brings together innovation, competition and national pride. Together with Magyar Nemzeti Autósport Szövetség and President Zoltán Szujó, we are committed to increasing accessibility to motorsport and continuing the delivery of world-class sporting events in Hungary and across the region,” he said.

The FIA continues to work with governments, sporting bodies and mobility partners worldwide to expand motorsport opportunities while advancing road safety and sustainable mobility solutions.
