Bahrain’s young handball stars powered past Iran 31-24 to reach the Asian semi-finals and book their place at the 2027 World Championship.
The national side took a 14-11 lead into half-time before scoring 17 goals after the break to finish the job by seven.
Ahmed Ayyad was named player of the match after helping Bahrain seal the quarter-final win in Chuzhou, China.
The result placed Bahrain among Asia’s last four and secured a ticket to next year’s IHF Men’s Junior World Championship in North Macedonia.
Bahrain will face South Korea on Saturday at 6pm in China, or 1pm Bahrain time, with a place in the final on the line.
South Korea beat Chinese Taipei 30-26 to earn their semi-final spot.
Bahrain entered the knockout rounds after finishing second in Group A with eight points from four wins and one loss, behind Saudi Arabia.
The match was played at the Chuzhou International Handball Hall on Friday.
The 19th Asian Men’s Junior Handball Championship runs from July 15 to 27 and includes 13 teams.
The World Championship will be held in North Macedonia from June 23 to July 4 next year.
