Defending champions Muharraq continued their strong showing in the 2025-26 Zain Bahrain Basketball League Golden Square semi-finals with a comfortable 96-69 victory over Al Ahli in game two last night. The win gives Muharraq a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series.
The contest, held at Khalifa Sports City Arena in Isa Town, saw the Red Wolves maintain control from the opening tip, steadily building a lead they would never relinquish. They outscored the Eagles in every quarter, opening the first period with a 24-17 advantage before gradually pulling away behind efficient shooting and disciplined defense. By halftime, Muharraq led 42-33, setting the tone for a decisive second half.
In the third quarter, the defending champions turned up the intensity. Younis Kuwayed, Ali Hussain Rashed, and Nick West spearheaded Muharraq’s scoring surge, helping the team extend their lead to 71-44. Al Ahli struggled to keep pace despite strong efforts from Anthony Fairley and Hesham Sarhan, who combined for 33 points by the end of the third period.
The fourth quarter saw Peter Schomers’ side continue their dominance, with Abdulla Rabeea and Mohamed Nasser hitting key three-pointers to push the lead beyond 25 points. Muharraq’s depth was evident, as contributions came from multiple players including Bader Abdulla, Rashed, and West, ensuring the team’s scoring remained balanced and their defensive pressure relentless.
Muharraq’s balanced attack was led by Ali Hussain Rashed, who delivered 16 points and controlled the tempo throughout. Nick West added 25 points, while Mohamed Nasser contributed 11 points and Michael Warren 12. Captain Bader Abdulla chipped in with 9 points, helping Muharraq execute smoothly on both ends of the floor.
For coach Ahmed Jan’s side, Anthony Fairley finished with 21 points, showing resilience despite his team’s deficit. Hesham Sarhan added 12 points, Maitham Jameel 8, Hussain Salman 6, and Ali Shukralla 6, but their efforts were not enough to counter Muharraq’s offensive depth and defensive intensity.
With a commanding 2-0 series lead, Muharraq will look to close out the semi-final when the teams return to Khalifa Sports City Arena for game three on Wednesday. Al Ahli will need a near-perfect performance to stay alive in the series, while Muharraq will aim to capitalize on their momentum and secure a spot in the Golden Square final.
The Red Wolves are aiming to add to their four national league crowns, though they still trail behind the record 25 titles held by Manama, with Al Ahli next on 20.
