Rain Delays T20 World Cup Super Eights Opener
Persistent rain disrupted the start of the T20 World Cup Super Eights match between Pakistan and New Zealand at the R. Premadasa Stadium on Saturday.
The toss was conducted on time, with Pakistan winning and choosing to bat first. However, heavy rain and wet conditions forced the pitch and ground to be covered, delaying the start by over an hour and 10 minutes.
Officials stated that if play cannot begin by 10:16 pm local time (1646 GMT) for a shortened five-over match, the game will be declared a no-result, with both teams earning one point each.
Pakistan, New Zealand, England, and co-hosts Sri Lanka are part of Group 2 of the Super Eights. Title-holders India, South Africa, Zimbabwe, and the West Indies make up Group 1. The top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
