Bahrain’s endurance athlete May Al Hajji claimed gold in her age group at the Ironman 70.3 Middle East Championship in Muscat, Oman, last Saturday.
Facing a competitive field of elite and amateur triathletes from around the world, Al Hajji delivered a strong performance across the swim, bike, and run disciplines to secure first place in her category and the Middle East title.
She completed the 1.9km swim, 90km bike ride, and 21.1km half marathon in under five hours, setting a personal best and marking a milestone in her triathlon career. Al Hajji maintained a steady pace in the swim, powered through the cycling leg, and produced a determined run to finish strongly at the top of the podium.
The victory is both a personal achievement and a proud moment for Bahraini sport. Al Hajji dedicated her triumph to the Kingdom’s leadership, including HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, praising their support for athletes and the development of sport in Bahrain, which she said remains a key motivator in pursuing excellence on the international stage.
