Makanov Retains ITF Junior Tennis Title

Kazakhstan’s Akhma - di Makanov retained the boys’ singles title at the ITF J30 junior tennis tournament in Bahrain, while China’s Jiayi Wang claimed the girls’ singles crown as the event concluded its second consecutive week of compet.

Second seed Makanov secured the boys’ title after top seed Javier Montes Jimenez of Spain retired while trailing 6-2, 2-0 in the final, allowing the Kazakh player to successfully defend the title he won the previous week. In the girls’ final, third seed Wang defeated Russia’s Stefania Kadzova 6-4, 6-2 with a composed performance to lift the championship trophy.

In doubles, Russia’s Kadzova and Sofia Lomakina won the girls’ title after edging Lebanon’s Lama Naaman and Russia’s Maria Nikolaeva in a closely fought final that ended 6-3, 7-6 (4), 13-11. The boys’ doubles title went to Russia’s Iakov Mazen and Filip Smirnov after their Kazakh opponents withdrew before the match due to injury. Tournament officials from the Bahrain Tennis Federation presented the trophies at the closing ceremony, marking the end of two weeks of international junior tennis competition in the kingdom.
