Shaikh Nahyan Presents Grand Prix Prize at 13th FBMA International Show Jumping Cup
His Excellency Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, attended the fourth day of the 13th FBMA International Show Jumping Cup in Abu Dhabi, where he presented the Longines Grand Prix prize to Britain’s William Funnell.
The event is organised by the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, “Mother of the Nation,” and under the guidance of Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan. It is held at the Al Forsan International Sports Resort.
Joining Sheikh Nahyan at the ceremony were Her Excellency Dr Omniyat Al-Hajri, Vice Chairwoman of the Academy’s Board, and Mr Najib Kiwan, Regional Brand Manager of Longines for the Middle East and North Africa. Also present were senior officials including Matar Rashed Binjabr Alsuwaidi, CEO of Al Forsan, and members of the Academy’s Board of Directors.
William Funnell won the final category of the day, the One Round (145cms), riding Equine America Billy Picador. He completed a flawless round in 73.17 seconds, ahead of UAE’s Mohammad Al Ghurair and Sweden’s Antonia Pettersson Haggstrom. Funnell received part of the EUR 28,200 prize and praised the organisers for promoting equestrian sports in the UAE.
“I am very happy to win the Grand Prix with my horse Equine America Billy Picador. The level of equestrian in the UAE has improved greatly over the past seven years, and FBMA is doing an excellent job supporting the sport,” Funnell said.
Earlier in the day, Spain’s Agusti Sastre Caballero won the One Round with Jump Off (120cms), while UAE’s Mabkhout Owaida Alkirbi and Syria’s Mohamad Osama Al Zabibi took second and third. In the One Round with Jump Off (130cms), Syria’s Shady Ghrayeb won gold, followed by UAE’s Omar Abdulaziz Almarzooqi and Humaid Abdullah Khalifa Almheiri. Syria also secured a one-two finish in the Two Phases (130cms) with Mohamad Mogheeth Al Shehab and Mohamad Osama Al Zabibi, while UAE’s Salim Ahmed Alsuwaidi took bronze.
The Fatima Bint Mubarak International Show Jumping Cup 2026 will continue with the national competition on Sunday.
