Bahrain’s Adrian Granja snatches silver in 79kg division

Bahrain’s 17-year-old Adrian Granja delivered an impressive performance in the Boys’ 79kg category at Exhibition World Bahrain (EWB) yesterday, securing a silver medal at the third Asian Youth Games.
Granja posted a total of 309kg, with a 142kg snatch and a 167kg clean and jerk, finishing behind Turkmenistan’s Didarbek Jumabayev, who claimed gold with 315kg. China’s Xiao Ao took bronze with 308kg, while Kazakhstan’s Nurzhan Zhumabay earned gold in the snatch with 146kg and silver in the clean and jerk with 176kg, though his total counted in a separate division.
In the snatch, Granja progressed steadily through lifts of 133kg, 137kg, and finally 142kg in his third attempt, earning the snatch silver. In the clean and jerk, he successfully lifted 162kg and 167kg, narrowly missing 172kg on his final attempt.
Jumabayev dominated the division with a 138kg snatch and 177kg clean and jerk for a winning total of 315kg. Xiao Ao lifted 136kg in snatch and 172kg in clean and jerk, finishing just behind Granja.
