It’s superbike season!
The Bahrain Superbike Championship (BSBK) is set to get underway on Friday with the first round of action at the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) in Sakhir.
It is supported by the BIC and the Bahrain Motor Federation (BMF), making it unique and the first racing championship of its kind in the region.
The event season consists of 12 races over six days in a period of six months, which involves 15 racers to win the battle in a season-long race for the Bahrain Superbike Champion title, and is set up in an “arrive and ride” racing format as they race Ducati 899 Panigale bikes for the whole season which allows them to focus on improving their racing skills.
The BSBK races at BIC will be held in the inner circuit and provides a fantastic vantage point for the audience. This also gives the crowd unprecedented access to the pit garages and the contestants, providing a family oriented event for the supporters.
“BSBK is a competition in riders racing skills. The 15 participants will all use identical bikes which is a great chance for every aspiring riders to test their individual racing skills and compete for a title,” Hussein Al Kooheji, co-founder of BSBK explained.
“There are important rules in racing which all riders have to carefully follow to avoid disqualification and as a safety measure,” he added.
BIC Chief Executive Shaikh Salman bin Isa Al Khalifa commented, “We thank the championship promoters and organisers, especially Abdulrahman Almoayed, Director of Wheels of Arabia and co-founder Hussain Al Kooheji for all their hard work and dedication in bringing this series to life.”
“We would like to wish the riders all the best for this inaugural season and once again are very delighted to have the Bahrain Superbike Championship become a part of the National Race Days,” he added.
This is the first organised superbike championship in the Kingdom, with collaboration of motorcycle organisations and enthusiasts. Abdulrahman Almoayed, Director of Wheels of Arabia with Hussein Al Kooheji, a motorcycle veteran and championship titleholder, both worked together in cooperation with BIC and BMF. The event is also supported and sponsored by SevenFriday, Bahrain Motorcycle Club (BMC), Pro Fiber, Pirelli, R&G and The Westin Bahrain City Centre Hotel.
“This is what all motorcycle riders here in Bahrain and other GCC countries have been waiting for and is the start of the motorcycle era in Bahrain and the region. With the best track venue in the region to launch and experience a superbike championship, this is every riders dream to enter a race competition” Abdulrahman Almoayed said.
