Bahrainis chase second consecutive title after last month’s Gulf success
Bahrain enter the Arab U16 Basketball Championship at Cairo Stadium today with serious intent. They arrive as undisputed Gulf champions, having swept Oman (96–44), Kuwait (93–52), Saudi Arabia (82–62), and the UAE (83–50) — an average margin of victory exceeding 30 points. That run secured first place in the GBA standings and a berth at next month’s FIBA U16 Asian Championship in Mongolia.
Opening Against Qatar
The tournament begins with Bahrain facing Qatar at 1:00pm today, a fixture carrying early weight in the round-robin format. Only the top two teams advance to the final, making a strong start essential.
The Road Ahead
Bahrain’s schedule is demanding: Algeria (Aug 11, 3:00pm), Kuwait (Aug 12, 1:00pm), Tunisia (Aug 14, 3:00pm), and hosts Egypt (Aug 15, 9:00pm).
