Napoli Crowned Serie A Champions
Napoli have clinched the Serie A title for the fourth time in their history, and the second time in just three seasons, after a comfortable 2-0 win over Cagliari at a jubilant Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on Friday night.
Goals from Scott McTominay and Romelu Lukaku sealed the title for Antonio Conte’s side, who finished the evening one point ahead of closest rivals Inter Milan, despite Inter’s own 2-0 win away at Como.
Maradona Stadium Erupts
With nerves and excitement filling the air in Naples, the breakthrough came just before half-time. McTominay, on loan from Manchester United, delivered a moment of pure brilliance — connecting with Matteo Politano’s cross to fire in an acrobatic bicycle kick that ignited wild celebrations across the stands.
Shortly after the interval, Lukaku — who has enjoyed a resurgent spell in southern Italy — latched onto a long pass, muscled past his marker, and finished calmly to all but seal the title. As the final whistle approached, flares, smoke, and fireworks turned the stadium into a sea of light and colour.
Conte Makes History
Though suspended for the final fixture and forced to watch from the stands, Antonio Conte has etched his name into Serie A folklore, becoming one of the few managers to win the Scudetto with three different clubs, having previously lifted the title with Juventus and Inter.
“It’s happened again and it’s just as wonderful,” Conte said. “Winning in Naples is something unique. These lads have done something special. You don’t stay in a team like this unless you’re serious about winning.”
Inter Fall Just Short
Inter Milan did all they could on the night, with goals from Stefan de Vrij and Joaquin Correa giving them a 2-0 win at Como. But it wasn’t enough. Napoli’s final tally put them one point clear, capping off a dramatic title race that had captivated Italian football throughout the spring.
Relentless from the Start
Napoli wasted no time asserting themselves, with Giacomo Raspadori and Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa both coming close early on. Cagliari goalkeeper Alen Sherri frustrated the home side with a series of excellent saves in the first half, briefly quieting the crowd, especially when word spread that Inter had taken the lead up north.
But McTominay’s wonder goal swung the momentum irreversibly. From that moment, Napoli never looked back.
A City Reignited
This signals a new golden era for Napoli, with the club continuing to build on their recent resurgence. After decades in the shadow of Italy’s traditional giants, the Partenopei have re-established themselves as a genuine powerhouse.
With Conte at the helm, a hungry squad, and a city once again dreaming big, Napoli’s fourth Scudetto might not be their last.
