An amazing adventure

ManamaAn amazing adventure unfolded as 45 children and 5 teachers from St Christopher’s Junior School in Saar ended the annual Year 5 and 6 ski trip recently.

On arriving at Schipol Airport in Amsterdam, after an early morning departure from Geneva, they discovered that their onward flight back to Bahrain had been unexpectedly cancelled. Thus began a marathon stopover with many hours spent in the airport followed by a night in an airport hotel.

The children were commended by fellow travellers for their patience and positive attitude as they waited for their teachers to arrange alternative flights home.

Easily identifiable, wearing their DG Jones hoodies, the children kept themselves occupied playing cards and clapping games throughout their long journey home.

Initially, it appeared that they may be stranded in Amsterdam for days but eventually 2 staff and 18 children headed back via Dammam and the rest of the party were able to board flights via London Heathrow.

On returning to Bahrain there were amazing scenes of happy children being reunited with their relieved parents.

Many parents have contacted the school thanking teachers for the way the situation was handled in such a calm and professional manner with regular correspondence keeping everyone informed of new information as it became available. Some have even said that their children enjoyed the experience!

Background:

On 16 February, 45 children from St Christopher’s Junior School embarked on their annual Ski Trip to Anzere, Switzerland. The children were due to spend one week on the slopes, and many of the students were looking forward to seeing real snow for the first time. The school thanked the trip sponsor DG Jones, for very kindly donating the trip hoodies, which not only made the group look very smart but also encouraged a real sense of team spirit!
