The American University of Bahrain (AUBH) announced its partnership with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)’s International Science and Technology Initiative (MISTI) for the second consecutive year, hosting a two-week hands-on workshop, for two groups, entitled “Building Interactive Wearable Technology from Scratch”.

The workshop is sponsored by Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait and will run until the first week of February.

The workshop involves university students from across Bahrain and will enable students to learn how to build interactive technology from scratch with applications in specific domains such as robotics, exoskeletons, interactive fashion, assistive technology, amongst other fields.

Students will delve deeper into the world of fabrication, sensors and circuits, and coding using rapid retyping techniques like 3D printing, laser cutting, sewing, and Arduino-based circuit design.

Students will also learn some fundamental product development and design skills including 3D modeling with Fusion 360 and rendering.

With the aim of providing students with a deeper understanding of the evolving landscape of science and technology, the program blends theoretical knowledge with practical applications, equipping students with valuable insights and skills crucial for success in today’s digital age.

A team of MIT instructors will conduct these sessions in AUBH’s D-Lab using state-of-the-art tools and creative workspaces.

Dr. Abdulrahman Saif, BBK Chief Executive Officer commented, “Our sponsorship of this monthlong program ensures that we contribute to upskilling the Bahraini youth; providing them with an ideal platform to build a broader network of knowledge and expertise in the fields of technology and innovation “.

Dr. Bradley J. Cook, AUBH President said, “In an era where technology plays a pivotal role in every industry, it is imperative for students to stay ahead of the curve.

This workshop is an excellent opportunity for them to explore, learn, and apply the latest advancements in science and technology.” AUBH welcomed students from various disciplines across several universities in Bahrain – University of Bahrain, British University of Bahrain, Polytechnic, RCSI Medical University of Bahrain to participate in this enriching experience.

The workshop aims to not only offer a platform for academic growth but also provides a valuable networking opportunity for students to connect with peers and industry professionals from Bahrain and the world.
