GPIC backs women empowerment drive

Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC) President Dr Abdulrahman Jawahery yesterday pledged to continue efforts to boost the Kingdom’s women empowerment drive. Expressing pride in the role of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa in this regard, Dr Jawahery said, “We now have 25 per cent of job disciplines at the GPIC that entitle women to work in.”

“This represents 10 per cent of the company’s total staff, including three women in leadership positions in Executive Management, as well as other supervisory centres,” he added. Hailing the new name of this year’s award to mark Bahraini Women’s Day, the GPIC Presidents said, “This prestigious award has added a lot of momentum to the celebration of Bahrain Women’s Day.”

The Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Women announced on June 16 the launch of the sixth edition of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Award for the Advancement of Bahraini Women. It is awarded every two years to the best ministries, government, private and civil society institutions.
