Citizens’ needs discussed

ManamaElectricity and Water Affairs Minister Dr. Abdulhussain Mirza received Muharraq Municipal Council Chairman Mohammed Abdullah Al-Sinan along with several other council members, in the presence of officials of the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) and the Sustainable Energy Unit.

The two sides discussed members’ requests and reviewed the future plan of the Sustainable Energy Unit. The two sides said that the support enabled the EWA to achieve a lot and asserted they were keen to continue the process and implement further development plans.” 

The Minister thanked the wise leadership for their care and support for EWA projects and the municipal councils to provide the best services to citizens and residents.

During the meeting, the Minister and the Sustainable Energy Unit team gave a presentation on the unit, its objectives, plans, regulations and legislation. The National Energy Efficiency Action Plan (NEEAP) and the National Renewable Energy Plan (NREAP), prepared by the unit, were reviewed. During the meeting, citizens’ comments on electricity and water services were conveyed to the minister and officials.

The setting up of the unit was approved by the Council of Ministers and signed in November 2014 by the Government of the Bahrain, represented by the EWA, and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The agreement was signed by the Electricity and Water Affairs Minister and the UNDP Bahrain representative. The unit aims to boost the use of renewable energy and raise the efficiency of energy use in Bahrain.

The municipal councilors thanked the minister and officials on their support while the minister praised the efforts of the president and members of the Municipal Council to ensure they meet citizens’ needs. The meeting was attended by EWA Executive Vice President of Distribution and Customer Services, Adnan Fakhro, Sustainable Energy Unit Executive Director Jehan Al Murbati and minister’s adviser Dr. Ahmed Hashim.
