BAB to launch Unified dictionary in sign language

Manama : Bahrain Association of Banks (BAB) announced plans to launch a unified dictionary for banking terminologies in sign language to enable people with visual or hearing impairments to deal with banks and banking transactions easily.

Dr. Waheed Al Qassim, CEO of BAB, said that the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) has assigned BAB to find the best solutions and practices to help them make banking transactions easily, as a prelude to adapt these practices by the various banks in the kingdom.

“Based on this, we found a system made by a Saudi company that might be the most convenient,” he added.

According to the CEO of BAB, the next phase will consist of training bankers on the terminologies in sign language, as well as teaching special needs people the essential banking transactions they might need.

Dr. Al Qassim pointed out that CBB has issued a circular to all the retail banks that has 10 branches or more in the Kingdom to equip one branch as least to serve special needs customers. The circular also encourages banks to provide one ATM machine at least to service the special needs customers.
