Juffair residents say no to revving engines

Manama

Bikers revving up the engines of their machines to attract attention have got the worst end of it. Residents of Juffair claimed that they have been irked by such bikers in the area.

“Young bikers often modify their bikes to make it louder, inorder to attract attention,” alleged a distressed resident, “These bikers often install modified exhaust pipes or giant ones for noise amplification. This trend is not only annoying, but also dangerous.”

“The noise startles and distracts people,” Asian expat Anup Mathew told DT News. “Other motorists are scared easily, and lose concentration.”

“It happened to me once. As I was driving, I heard a thunder. I panicked. It felt like an explosion,” he added.

Mathew , however, admitted that this issue is not limited to Juffair. “I have seen these people in Saar, Budaiya and other places as well,” he added.

“It’s not the bike gangs that are the problem,” admits another resident, “Bike gangs are usually very reasonable. It’s mostly college students who cause this kind of annoyance.” another resident said.

The authorities have warned such vehicle owners with fines. Public Security Drivers Training School Head Major Rashid Musbah said, “any vehicle with excessive noise could be impounded and action can be taken against the owner.”

“When the engine is revved up, the sound is deafening, this is against the law. We periodically check vehicles, two wheelers included, and take action,” he added.
