Youth Take Part in Bahrain’s Mangrove Mission

The Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, in coordination with the Ministry of Youth Affairs, organised an awareness workshop on the “Bahrain Mangrove” initiative as part of the activities of Youth City 2030, coinciding with the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem.

The workshop, attended by several ministry officials, focused on raising environmental awareness among young participants and highlighting the importance of mangrove forests in preserving biodiversity and supporting sustainable development.

Speaking on the occasion, Agriculture and Animal Wealth Affairs Undersecretary Eng. Asim Abdul Latif Abdullah highlighted the key role of the “Bahrain Mangrove” initiative, launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, which aims to increase Bahrain’s mangrove trees fourfold by 2035.

He stressed the importance of engaging youth in environmental priorities and empowering them as active partners in efforts to protect the environment and achieve sustainability goals.

Eng. Abdullah said the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture continues to promote environmental awareness among young people and encourage their participation in national initiatives aimed at protecting natural resources.

He noted that the “Bahrain Mangrove” initiative represents a successful model of cooperation between government entities, the private sector, and civil society organisations in mangrove cultivation and the preservation of coastal biodiversity.

He added that the ministry continues to implement environmental programmes and expand community partnerships in sustainability projects, in line with Bahrain’s commitments to protecting ecosystems, achieving Sustainable Development Goals, and strengthening the Kingdom’s position in environmental conservation.

The workshop witnessed strong interaction from participating youth, who engaged in discussions and raised questions about ways to protect mangrove trees and their role in supporting national environmental initiatives. Participants also explored best practices in conserving coastal ecosystems, reflecting growing environmental awareness among Bahrain’s youth.
