Bahrain Court Jails 11 Over Violence During Iranian Attacks
Defendants sentenced to up to five years in prison and fined BD500 in separate cases
MANAMA: Eleven defendants have been sentenced to prison terms of up to five years in four separate cases involving violence and vandalism that took place during the hostile Iranian attacks against the Kingdom of Bahrain in March, according to the Head of the Terror Crimes Prosecution.
The High Criminal Court also imposed fines of BD500 on some of the defendants and ordered the confiscation of seized items linked to the cases.
According to the prosecution, the cases stemmed from reports submitted by the relevant security departments at Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior, stating that the defendants were arrested at the crime scenes while allegedly participating in acts of violence and vandalism during the period of the attacks.
The Public Prosecution said investigations were launched immediately, with the defendants questioned in detail while being granted all legal rights and guarantees throughout the investigation process. Authorities also ordered their detention pending investigations, heard witness testimonies, and reviewed technical and forensic reports.
Following the completion of investigations and the collection of testimonial and forensic evidence, the defendants were referred to the High Criminal Court, which heard the cases over several sessions before delivering its verdicts today.
The Public Prosecution stressed that it would continue to take strict legal action against anyone attempting to undermine public security or threaten social stability through acts of violence or vandalism.
It further affirmed its commitment to confronting all forms of disorder and violence in accordance with the law to safeguard the security and stability of society.
